The Community Chest Fund works towards improving both facilities and the lives of residents in the community; promotes, encourages and supportes community involvement; and offers access funds to local voluntary groups with clearly identified needs. 10/7/09 - Spark Challenge - Spark is a pioneering development and investment programme designed to build and inspire organisations to tackle homelessness through social enterprise. It gives organisations and individuals the opportunity to address homelessness through social enterprise. It offers funding to charities, small and medium sized businesses, social enterprises, housing associations and local authorities. 16/6/09 - Social Enterprise Investment Fund 2009/10 - Social enterprises which improve the quality of health and social care for local communities can apply for loans and grants from the Department of Health's Social Enterprise Investment Fund. Phil Hope, Minister for Care Services said: "The Fund provides not only loans and grants, but also valuable business support." The fund is being delivered by Futurebuilders England and Partnerships UK. The two organisations will work closely with the Department of Health's Social Enterprise Unit to support and assess applications to the fund. 12/6/09 - Future Jobs Fund - this fund has been set up as a response to the recession and rising levels of unemployment, in particular amongst 18-24 year olds and in 'unemployment hotspots'. Its aim is to avoid or minimise the impact of long-term unemployment for individuals and for the future of the economy. The fund, managed by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), is seeking bids which create at least 30 new jobs over a six month period. Social enterprises have been identified as a key partner in delivering this programme and consequently DWP are seeking bids either directly from larger social enterprises and social enterprise consortia or in partnerships with local authorities. or each new job created, the employing organisation would receive up to £6,500. Each bid will need to demonstrate that: t will create extra jobs, lasting at least 6 months, either for long term unemployed young people or people in unemployment hotspots; the work done will benefit local communities; the work will be under way quickly. 2/6/09 - Real Help for Communities: Modernisation Fund - this fund aims to help third sector organisations with an annual turnover of between £150,000 and £750,000 respond to the impact of the recession on communities, by helping frontline organisations increase their impact and become more resilient through partnership working. The funding will be targeted at third sector organisations which are wholly or primarily engaged in providing services that meet the needs of communities affected by the recession including well-being and health, advice, information and guidance, loss of income, training and skills. The Fund will offer bridging loans, reserves cover and overdraft guarantees, either on their own or as part of a Futurebuilders Full Investment. The fund is aimed to be primarily beneficial at the critical start-up and early growth stages of business development. The fund will be run as a 'pathfinder investment scheme' where the initial investment will be matched by private and independent investors.
